There is a new restaurant in Fairfield located in the Brick Walk Promenade off the Post Rd. A ramen noodle bar where slurping is encouraged, the menu even says so. The owners call it Asian Soul Food and it certainly did warm our souls. We went on a very rainy Friday night with a 15 month old. They welcomed us like we just walked into their home. So friendly. Our waitress explained the menu in great detail. We had the kale salad as an appetizer, it was a combination of raw and fried kale served with a white miso vinaigrette dressing and cranberries. We each had our own ramen. The vegetarian one with shrimp, it had a nice spicy miso curry broth, avocado, and tofu. It was delicious. Paitan Chicken was the other dish we had, soy chicken, nori, scallion and egg. For the side to go on to of the ramen we ordered their homemade chili. The broth for both was not too salty and was substantial enough to satisfy you. The dessert looked amazing but with a toddler it was time leave.
Mecha had a very gastropub feeling with an open air kitchen which if you sit at the actual noodle bar you can watch the chef prepare your meal. They source their meat from local Craft Butchery in Westport and have gluten free option with the noodles. The decor is simple yet striking with 2×4’s everywhere. The vibe was young and they welcomed families. We can’t wait to go back and try other dishes.
